In recognition of World Pilots Day, budget airline AirAsia Philippines held a mass recruitment event seeking to hire pilots amid the industry’s resurgent travel demand.

The one-day hiring blitz at the carrier’s Manila headquarters drew hundreds of applicants vying for pilot positions.

“Opportunities for pilots have been limited over recent times, especially given the challenges the airline industry has faced during the pandemic.”

AirAsia Philippines CEO Ricky Isla

He added: “However, we maintain a positive outlook for the future, and now that travel demand is booming once again, we are dedicated to creating avenues of opportunity for individuals passionate about aviation.”

The global aviation industry was severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, with many pilots facing furloughs or layoffs as travel ground to a halt.

As the sector recovers, airlines are rebuilding their pilot rosters to meet resurgent passenger volumes.

AirAsia currently employs 138 captains and 116 first officers for its Philippine operations. The multinational budget carrier has over 300 aircraft on order through 2035 across the AirAsia Aviation Group.

“As part of our value to ‘make a difference’ here at AirAsia, we remain dedicated to connecting people, places, and passions – striving to create an impact in the industry,” Isla stated.

Job seekers underwent AirAsia’s pilot screening and interview process during the recruitment event.

The airline is encouraging interested candidates to apply at mycareer.airasia.com and monitor its social media for future hiring opportunities.
