Edelweiss is set to become the first airline in Switzerland to operate the Airbus A350, with the first of six aircraft joining its fleet in April 2025. Initially, the A350 will fly short and medium-haul routes before transitioning to long-haul destinations like Las Vegas and Vancouver.
“Las Vegas will be the first long-haul destination served by the Airbus A350, with flights commencing in mid-May 2025,” the airline stated. Vancouver will follow shortly after, with daily service starting in July 2025.
Edelweiss plans to gradually integrate the remaining A350s into its fleet, with the third arriving in October 2025, the fourth in winter 2025, and the final two in the second half of 2026. Tickets for long-haul flights on the A350 will be available for booking from mid-May 2024.
The airline highlights the A350’s environmental benefits, stating that it “consumes 25% less fuel and produces 25% less CO2” compared to the A340-300 it replaces. Additionally, the A350 boasts a 50% reduction in noise emissions.
This move signifies Edelweiss’ commitment to fleet modernization and sustainability, while expanding its long-haul offerings to popular destinations.
Based on latest data from Planespotters.net, Edelweiss operates a fleet of 19 aircraft, composed of 14 Airbus A320 and five Airbus A350 aircraft. The Swiss airline, part of the Lufthansa Group, operates European and intercontinental flights from its homebase at Zurich Airport.
