All 44 airports operated by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) are on heightened alert from March 24 to 31 to accommodate the expected surge in air travel during Semana Santa or Holy Week 2024.
As part of the Department of Transportation’s Oplan Biyaheng Ayos for the Holy Week holidays, CAAP has directed its airport personnel to implement 24/7 operations and a ‘no leave policy’ to ensure the safety, security, and convenience of passengers.
“CAAP, together with local authorities including PNP-Aviation Security Unit, Office of Transportation Security, Department of Tourism, Civil Aeronautics Board, and airlines, have worked in coordination for efficient processing of passengers, especially at the check-in counters,” CAAP said.
To assist travelers, Malasakit help desks have been established at airports, with medical teams also on standby for emergencies.
According to data from the Aerodrome Development and Management Service, the CAAP recorded 3.1 million passengers from March to April 2022, and 4.4 million in the same period in 2023. This year, the CAAP expects an increase of 7-10% in passenger movement during the Holy Week.
Passengers are advised to plan their travel arrangements in advance for Holy Week 2024 and to arrive at the airport three hours before their flight.
