A ground collision incident involving Philippine Airlines and China Airlines aircraft occurred at Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 on Tuesday, February 27th.
An exclusive photograph obtained by AUP shows minor damage to the left wingtip of a PAL Airbus A330-343 (RP-C8766) after it collided with a parked China Airlines Airbus A330-302 (B-18317).
The PAL flight, PR-318 bound for Hong Kong, was in the midst of pushback procedures for its departure when the incident took place.
Concurrently, the China Airlines aircraft was undergoing ground servicing after recently arriving from Taipei, Taiwan.
According to the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), the PAL flight to Hong Kong experienced a delay exceeding three hours, as reported by The Manila Bulletin.
The Philippine flag carrier was compelled to switch aircraft to continue with the flight, as the damaged A330 needed to be grounded for wingtip repairs.
In addition, the China Airlines Airbus A330 was also grounded until the following morning. The wide-body aircraft departed for Taipei at 6:47 AM on February 28th.
