Lufthansa faces ground staff strike; flight disruptions expected

204

The German trade union Verdi has called for a 27-hour warning strike involving ground staff at Deutsche Lufthansa AG, Lufthansa Technik, Lufthansa Cargo, and other companies. The strike is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, February 7-8, 2024.

Due to the strike, Lufthansa anticipates that only 10 to 20 percent of their airline program will be operational on Wednesday. This significant disruption is expected to affect numerous passengers.

Lufthansa has stated that passengers affected by flight cancellations as a result of the Verdi strike will be informed via email or through the Lufthansa app. The airline has expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to its guests.

In light of the strike, Lufthansa has advised passengers to come to the airport only if their flight has not been canceled. Due to the strike, the rebooking counters will not be staffed. Passengers are advised to note the information in the “Rebooking” section.

Passengers whose flights have been canceled due to the strike can rebook them free of charge on lufthansa.com, in the customer app, or via the service centers. For those who have booked a domestic German flight, they have the option to convert their ticket into a rail voucher at lufthansa.com.

The union is calling for higher wages due to increased cost of living and heavy workload amidst ongoing negotiations with Lufthansa.
