Chinese carrier Juneyao Air inaugurated its direct air service between Shanghai–Pudong and Kalibo on Tuesday evening, February 6, 2024.
In a Facebook post, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Area VI posted photos of the arrival of the maiden flight from China.
Representatives from CAAP Kalibo, the Provincial Government of Aklan, and the Local Government Unit of Kalibo warmly welcomed the passengers and crew, highlighting the importance of this new route.
CAAP Area VI said:
Juneyao Air’s entry to Kalibo International Airport highlights the airport’s objective to expand its reach to increase international flights.
Kalibo serves as the international gateway to the world-renowned beaches of Boracay Island.
According to the aviation regulator, the Chinese airline will fly the Kalibo-Shanghai route three times weekly, every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, aboard the Airbus A320 aircraft.
Juneyao Air flight HO-1367 is scheduled to depart from Shanghai–Pudong at 6:30 PM and is set to arrive in Kalibo at 10:30 PM. HO-1368, the return flight, is scheduled to depart back to China at 11:30 PM with an arrival set at 3:05 AM.
This latest development comes on the heels of Loong Air’s relaunch of their Hangzhou-Kalibo route last week, utilizing an Airbus A320neo aircraft. Their flights operate on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, further strengthening the air link between China and the Philippines.
