Air Canada adds capacity, caps fares following Lynx Air shutdown

245

The Montreal-based Air Canada has announced it will offer fare caps and additional flight capacity to assist passengers affected by the suspension of Lynx Air operations.

Lynx Air flights will cease as of February 26th, 2024, following the creditor protection the low-cost carrier filed due to bankruptcy.

Air Canada’s measures are intended to offer affordable Economy class options on flights within Canada, to the U.S., and to Cancun, Mexico.

The Canadian flag carrier stated:

The measures are to provide Lynx Air customers affected by the carrier’s shutdown affordable options…so they can return home or make alternative travel arrangements for planned winter trips.

Discounted fares are purchasable before February 26th, with travel valid through April 2nd. These dates encompass the March Spring break across Canada and the Easter holidays.

Flights can be purchased via Air Canada’s website (aircanada.com) or through travel agents.

Notably, Air Canada will not directly honor existing Lynx Air tickets. According to the airline, passengers holding Lynx Air tickets should consult the Canadian Transport Agency website for guidance.

Air Canada is also supplementing capacity on certain Lynx routes connecting Toronto and Montreal to Cancun, Fort Myers, Orlando, Tampa, Phoenix, and Las Vegas.

The flag carrier’s service expansion will run between February 25th and March 19th, subject to availability due to the ongoing peak winter travel season.
