The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has reported a potential breakthrough in the case of the missing Piper PA-32-300 aircraft with registry RP-C1234. Possible wreckage of the plane has been identified via helicopter sighting, offering hope for resolving the search and rescue operation.

The wreckage was spotted on December 6, 2023, by a Philippine Air Force (PAF) helicopter during a search operation. However, due to the limited information available, the condition of the crew remains unknown.

Following the discovery, two PAF helicopters, a Sokol and a Huey, were immediately dispatched from Cauayan Airport to investigate the site further. An earlier flight plan for another PAF helicopter, callsign ANGEL922, scheduled to depart at 10:00 AM, was cancelled.

CAAP’s Aircraft Accident Investigation and Inquiry Board (AAIIB) investigators are currently on the ground coordinating with the search and rescue team. Once the exact location of the wreckage is confirmed, the AAIIB investigators will join the operation and begin their official investigation.

While the discovery of possible wreckage offers a ray of hope, the authorities have yet to confirm the fate of the crew. The investigation is ongoing, and updates are expected soon.
