Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) announced on Monday that Royal Air Philippines will launch direct flights between Davao and Hong Kong in the last quarter of the year.

In a news report from SunStar Davao, MinDA Secretary Maria Belen Acosta announced the airline’s new route in a press conference in Davao City on Monday, July 31, 2023.

“There is also one airline company, Royal Air, that will be having a Davao-Hongkong direct flight, and they will be formally announcing it this week… this coming Friday here in Davao,” Acosta said, as quoted by SunStar Davao.

Royal Air, in an email, confirmed to AviationUpdatesPH.com the launch of the Davao-Hong Kong route, with the inaugural flight set on October 8, 2023.

The airline further elaborated that non-stop flights between the two cities will operate twice a week, specifically on Thursdays and Sundays.

Flight RW-4001 will take off from Hong Kong at 11:55 AM (UTC+8) and arrive in Davao at 3:05 PM (UTC+8). The return flight, RW-4000, will depart from Davao at 4:05 PM and reach Hong Kong at 7:15 PM.

The launch of the Davao-Hong Kong route marks the return of direct flights between the two cities after Cathay Dragon suspended its operations in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The new route is expected to boost tourism and trade between Davao and Hong Kong, as well as provide more travel options for people in the two cities.
