American carrier United Airlines on Tuesday announced the imminent launch of a new direct air service between San Francisco, United States and Manila, Philippines, beginning October this year.
The Manila launch is part of the airline’s more ambitious plans to expand in the Asia-Pacific, with more frequencies expected to be added on flights to Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Taipei.
“United offers more flights to more destinations across the Pacific than all other U.S. airlines combined,” said Patrick Quayle, senior vice president of global network planning and alliances. “United is the flag carrier of the U.S. and we are excited to bring this new service to Manila while expanding access to Hong Kong, Taipei and Tokyo.”
Daily flights between San Francisco and Manila will begin on October 29 and will be flown aboard the airline’s Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.
Flight UA-191 departs San Francisco at 12:35 AM (UTC-7) and arrives in Manila at 6:50 AM (UTC+8). The return flight, UA-190, departs Manila at 9:55 AM (UTC+8) and arrives back in San Francisco at 7:20 AM (UTC-7).
United presently flies from Manila to Guam and Palau using its Boeing 737 fleet.
Expanding the Asia-Pacific footprint
In addition to the new Manila route, United Airlines has announced plans to enhance its flight services to several Asian and Oceanic destinations. These expansions are scheduled to take effect starting October 28.
The American carrier is introducing a new daily service between Los Angeles and Hong Kong, as well as resuming its daily Los Angeles-Tokyo (Narita) route. Furthermore, on October 29, United will increase its flight frequency between Taipei and San Francisco to twice daily, providing passengers with more travel options.
Expanding its reach to the Oceanic region, United Airlines is set to launch direct flights from San Francisco to Christchurch, New Zealand, and from Los Angeles to Brisbane, Australia. Moreover, the Los Angeles-Auckland route will see an increase in weekly flights, with four additional flights added to the schedule.
