Boeing and Avolon, the international aircraft leasing company, have announced a significant order for 40 737 MAX airplanes at the Paris Air Show. This order marks Avolon’s first order for 737 MAX jets since 2017, showcasing their confidence in the long-term demand for the fuel-efficient 737-8 model.
Andy Cronin, the CEO of Avolon, expressed the company’s commitment to supporting Boeing’s 737 MAX program and their belief in the sustained demand for these aircraft. Cronin stated, “We are confident in the long-term demand from our customers for the 737 MAX, and this order extends our delivery pipeline out to 2030.” Avolon aims to contribute to the transition of the global fleet to more fuel-efficient and sustainable aircraft, aligning with their customers’ sustainability objectives.
The 737 MAX is expected to offer Avolon’s customers greater operational flexibility while significantly reducing fuel consumption and emissions. These airplanes are estimated to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 8 million pounds annually per aircraft compared to the models they replace, contributing to environmental sustainability.
Stan Deal, the president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, acknowledged the leasing community’s strong interest in the 737-8 model. He stated, “This order demonstrates the popularity of the 737-8 among the leasing community and the demand they are seeing from their customers for this airplane model.” Boeing recognizes Avolon as a key leasing partner and looks forward to strengthening their relationship as Avolon expands its Boeing portfolio of airplanes.
The 737-8 model, capable of seating 162 to 210 passengers and flying up to 3,500 nautical miles, is renowned for its versatility on short and medium-haul routes.
Boeing’s latest order from Avolon contributes to the growing success of the 737 MAX program. Since July 2022, Boeing has received over 1,000 orders and commitments for its new commercial airplanes, with more than 750 of those orders specifically for the 737 MAX. The popularity of the 737 MAX family highlights its versatility and commonality, meeting the diverse needs of airlines worldwide.
