National flag carrier Philippine Airlines launched flights to Borongan on Tuesday, December 19, 2022.

The Cebu-Borongan flights of PAL Express serve as the first direct air link to the provincial capital of Eastern Samar.

Flight 2P-2651 departs from Cebu at 11:05 AM and arrives in Borongan at 12:00 PM. The return flight, 2P-2652 departs from Borongan at 12:30 PM and arrives back in Cebu at 1:30 PM.

Flights between Cebu and Borongan operate every Monday and Friday aboard the 86-seat De Havilland Dash 8-400 Next Generation aircraft.

“We are delighted to link Borongan City with Cebu for the first time, opening direct access for more travelers to discover the beauty and special attractions that Eastern Samar has to offer,” said PAL Vice President for Sales Bud Britanico.

“As we continue to expand our network hub in Cebu, we view our new Cebu-Borongan routes as a huge opportunity for Eastern Samar to generate more good business and tourism revenues to uplift the local economy. Philippine Airlines will do its part to promote travel to Borongan, not just from Cebu but also from Manila and other cities in PAL’s domestic and regional network,” Britanico added.

PAL also markets the route as a Manila-Borongan via Cebu service.

During the inaugural flight, Borongan Mayor Jose Ivan Dayaw Agda boarded the 8:40 AM Manila-Cebu flight and connected with the 11:05 AM Cebu-Borongan flight.

Present during the inaugural festivities at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 were Eastern Samar Governor Ben Evardone, House Minority Leader Marcelino Libanan, Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Cesar Chiong, PAL Express President Rabbi Vincent-Ang, PAL Group officials Bud Britanico, Bryan Ang, Mathew Tamaray and Jane Go.
