211

A China Airlines Cargo Boeing 747-409F, with registry B-18715, hit several ground equipment while taxiing at the Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ICAO: KORD) on Friday, January 28, 2022.

Security camera footage from the airport showed the incident as it happened.

Flight 5240 was taxiing to the gate after arriving from a long-haul flight from Taipei via Anchorage. While taxiing in the snow, the aircraft seemingly lost traction and hit several baggage carts and ground equipment, sustaining significant damage in its No. 1 and No. 2 engines.

Local media outlet Fox 32 Chicago reported that the Chicago Department of Aviation said the incident happened at around 6:30 a.m. (UTC-6). Fortunately, none out of the two occupants aboard the aircraft suffered injuries.

The same airframe experienced engine issues upon take-off on a flight from Taipei to Anchorage on January 16, 2022. The Aviation Herald said, “…the outboard right-hand engine (CF6) emitted a series of bangs and streaks of flames.” The pilots safely stopped the climb, dumped fuel, and returned to the airport minutes later.
