Low-cost carrier AirAsia Philippines restarted flights to Hong Kong and Singapore over the weekend, marking the resumption of regional flights since the pandemic.
On December 5, AirAsia relaunched flights between Manila and Singapore on-board the Airbus A320-200 aircraft.
AirAsia Philippines’ maiden flight to Singapore, Z2-825, departed from the NAIA Terminal 3 at 8:00 am and successfully landed at Changi International Airport at 11:40 am. Meanwhile, its return flight to Manila departed from Singapore at 12:25 pm and safely landed in Manila at 4:05 pm.
AirAsia Philippines Spokesperson Steve Dailisan said: “We are happy to have successfully expanded our route network to Singapore. Initially we will cater to our Filipino workers and business travelers but soon as we slowly recover from the global pandemic, we hope to open this route for leisure travel also.”
“This is extra special for us in AirAsia because we know how Filipinos value family traditions during the Christmas season and we take pride in being an instrument to those happy and meaningful reunions.”
On December 6, the low-cost carrier also restarted flights between Manila and Hong Kong, carrying 103 passengers, mostly Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), on the maiden service.
AirAsia officially commenced the bi-weekly flights to Hong Kong on December 5, with flight Z2-1264 departing NAIA Terminal 3 at 8:35 am. The return flight to Manila arrived in the same terminal at 2:00 pm.
Dailisan said: “The pandemic has isolated the world and prohibited loved ones from seeing each other for almost two years. We at AirAsia Philippines are glad that we get to help Filipino families reunite this Christmas season. We understand and value the importance of ‘family’ in these rather bleak times. We are optimistic that despite the emergence of new COVID-19 variants, air travel will continue to grow in service of Filipinos thriving abroad as we learn more on how to safely and effectively live in our constantly changing reality.”
AirAsia has been gradually resuming flights to its previously serviced destinations as demand continues to bounce back and the COVID-19 outlook and recovery improve. The airline recently announced the reactivation of its hibernated crew to meet the growing market demand.
