Start of Singapore-Hong Kong Air Travel Bubble postponed again

78

The governments of Singapore and Hong Kong have deferred the launch date for the bilateral Air Travel Bubble (ATB) due to the current COVID-19 situation in Singapore.

The decision to push back the launch for a second time was made following a meeting between Singapore’s Transport Minister S Iswaran and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region’s (SAR) Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Edward Yau. The original scheduled start date for the ATB is on May 26.

In a statement, Singapore’s transport ministry stated that while both cities remain committed to the ATB, Singapore is unable to meet the criteria to start it due to the recent increase in unlinked community cases.

Due to the rise in cases, in Singapore, Singapore’s government has implemented Phase 2 (Heightened Alert) effective May 16 through June 13. Both city governments will monitor the public health situation and review the new launch date towards the end of Phase 2.

Both governments stated while the ATB has been pushed back, travelers can still continue their trips between both cities subject to current border control and quarantine requirements.
