Taiwanese carrier Starlux Airlines has announced that it will commence flights between Taipei and Cebu this year, with the inaugural flight taking place on April 6, 2020.
The daily flight will be operated by an Airbus A321neo aircraft, equipped with eight lie-flat business class seats and 180 economy class seats. Tickets for flights between the two cities will be available for purchase on the Starlux Airlines website from January 20 onwards.
According to the airline, Cebu was chosen as its newest destination due to its popularity among Taiwanese tourists and business travelers.
In a report released last year by online travel agency Expedia, Cebu was identified as one of the top ten destinations visited by Taiwanese travelers in 2018. Other cities on that list include Hong Kong, Tokyo, Bangkok, Seoul, Osaka, Shanghai, Macau, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur.
Starlux Airlines will be the fifth airline to offer direct flights between Taipei and Cebu after EVA Air, Tigerair Taiwan, Philippines AirAsia, and China Airlines.
Starlux Airlines, which is positioning itself as a premium-oriented carrier with the slogan “Born with luxury, shining like stars”, is Taiwan’s newest airline. It is expected to start commercial operations on January 23, 2020, with Macau, Da Nang (Vietnam), and Penang (Malaysia) as its initial destinations. The airline also plans to eventually operate long-haul flights when it receives its Airbus A350 aircraft with deliveries beginning in 2021.
